Die SPD Nordrhein-Westfalen (offiziell abgekürzt NRWSPD; offizieller Vollname Sozialdemokratische Partei Deutschlands (SPD), Landesverband Nordrhein-Westfalen<ref>Satzung der NRWSPD i. d. F. v. 27. September 2014</ref>) bildet mit 120.000 Mitgliedern den größten Landesverband der SPD. Vorsitzende ist Hannelore Kraft, das Amt des Generalsekretärs hat André Stinka inne. Im Landtag stellt die SPD mit 99 Abgeordneten die größte Fraktion. Seit dem 14. Juli 2010 stellt sie wieder die Ministerpräsidentin.

Neben den vier Bezirksorganisationen wurde der Landesverband auf dem ersten Landesparteitag 1970 in Dortmund gegründet.

Die Partei stellte teilweise in Koalitionen mit der FDP oder den Grünen, teilweise in Alleinregierung die Landesregierung von Nordrhein-Westfalen. In dieser Zeit stellte die SPD den Ministerpräsidenten:

Fritz Steinhoff (1956 bis 1958)
Heinz Kühn (1966 bis 1978)
Johannes Rau (1978 bis 1998)
Wolfgang Clement (1998 bis 2002)
Peer Steinbrück (2002 bis 2005)
Hannelore Kraft (seit 14. Juli 2010)

Struktur

Die Landespartei organisiert sich in Bezirksverbänden, die sich Regionen nennen:

Region Westliches Westfalen (Regierungsbezirke Münster und Arnsberg)
Region Niederrhein (Regierungsbezirk Düsseldorf)
Region Mittelrhein (Regierungsbezirk Köln)
Region Ostwestfalen-Lippe (Regierungsbezirk Detmold)

Unterhalb der Bezirke bestehen 54 Unterbezirke (Kreisverbände und Stadtverbände) und zirka 1.400 Ortsvereine.

Wahlergebnisse

Kommunalwahlen

Nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg stiegen die Kommunalwahlergebnisse der NRW SPD von 33,4 % (1946) bis auf 46,6 % (1964) an. Seit 1964 sinken sie bis auf ihr bisher tiefstes Ergebnis 2004 mit 31,7 %. Bei der Kommunalwahl am 30. August 2009 lag die Partei mit einem Stimmenanteil von 29,4 % erstmals unter der 30-Prozent-Marke.
